At Butterfield Acres, the well-being of our animals is the pulse of the farm. Since 1982, we have operated with a simple philosophy: we are guests in their home. Our goats, sheep, horses, and cows aren’t just “attractions”—they are our partners in education and members of our family. Every experience we offer is designed around their comfort and natural rhythms. By prioritizing their health and happiness first, we provide our visitors with a truly authentic look at what respectful animal husbandry looks like.

A LIVING LEGACY SINCE 1982
We opened our gates over four decades ago to ensure that the “farm kid” experience was accessible to everyone, even in the heart of a growing city. In that time, Butterfield Acres has become a landmark of Calgary’s heritage. We’ve weathered the seasons and watched the skyline change, but our commitment to the land has remained unshakable. To us, legacy isn’t just about how long we’ve been here; it’s about the quality of the soil, the strength of our fences, and the trust the community places in us to be the stewards of this little slice of paradise.
The Generations We’ve Grown
The most rewarding part of our 40-year journey is watching the “Butterfield Circle” in action. We are now welcoming a third generation of farm fans; parents who once rode our tractors in the 80’s are now bringing their own little ones to meet our spring babies.
We’ve seen campers transform into counselors, and counselors return as teachers leading their own school groups. This continuity of care—from the animals we tend to the families we welcome—is what makes this farm a home. We aren’t just preserving a business; we are preserving a way of life that teaches kindness, patience, and respect for all living things.
