Welcome to Butterfield Acres Farm! Calgary’s BEST Farmyard!

Temporary Closure has now ended

Butterfield Acres was temporarily closed to the public due to two confirmed cases of avian influenza (bird flu). Working closely with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Alberta Health Services, we’ve completed all required cleaning, disinfection, and biosecurity measures and have now been cleared to resume business.

While none of our other animals were affected, we had to say goodbye to all our birds in accordance with CFIA requirements. We are thinking long and hard as to how we can protect our feathered friends from this threat posed by the natural migration of the wild birds …. there are no easy answers.

None of our staff were affected, and we understand that although 20 members of the public presented for testing,  all tested negative.

A huge thank you to our core staff members who went above and beyond for many long days working to complete all the many little steps required to ensure sterility.  Way to be…. super superstars you were, over and over….

Finally, a GIANT thank you to everyone for all your care and concern and offers of support in so many ways.  Let’s just say this was a very stressful and overwhelming expereince trying to jump through all the necsessary hoops to check off all the boxes for the powers that be. Please know we are grateful for EVERY single phone message and email.  Thank you, thank you.

We are now ‘back in the saddle’ trying to catch up on all our fall bookings, and to get ready for all those great Christmas and Holiday events.  We are so ready for some joy and celebration.   Bookings are coming in for Spring Baby field trips (we LOVE that you teachers are thiinking about SPRING already) and Day Camp registrations will start Jan 15.  Never a dull moment… but we love what we do with these amazing wonderful animals… and we love sharing that kindness, respect and appreciation to our visitors and friends.  Here’s to a very special 2026!
